Up this week

This introductory episode is our first attempt so expect things to evolve. We really want to hear your comments so please post them below.

This week we introduce the concept of the Lunchcast. Myself and Rich explain, very eloquently, what we are going to do and why. With some heavy breathing and the odd deliberate mistake, it was entertaining for us if nobody else.

Enjoy.

Enjoyed listening to your first lunchcast – good how Rich was coming through one speaker and Rob through the other!
I might have a go at the reading through the year thing but not sure if i’ll be able to keep it up. If not, at least i’ll be able to rely on the fact that you two guys have done the readings and i can then listen to your comments afterwards!
Happy new year!

Hi, just listened to your first lunch cast and think it is brilliant the commitment that you have made and I will try and do some listening throughout the year. Heidi

Hey Heidi and Mr Oster, nice of you to post. As you will find out on Monday we have changed the reading plan a little bit to make it a bit more do-able so we will be continuing from where we left off and reading through the new testament not the whole bible.

just thought about Bible reading etc. i’m glad that you’ve decided not to go for reading the whole Bible through the year. at our small group tonight we were considering the whole thing of reading the Bible and it came to me the idea that quality is much more important than quantity. with that in mind, i wanted to suggest maybe just going for something that involves only reading say about 4 chapters a week. this would make it possible to dig a bit deeper and reflect more on the passages read rather than it just being a ‘tick the box – i’m up-to-date on my readings’ thing. also, it would be easier for you guys when it comes to your weekly lunch cast – rather than chatting over the contents of 15 chapters you could focus more easily on just one or two main issues. finally, it may help to take lots more people with you as we journey together etc. anyway, have a think about it but whatever you decide, i think the idea of the site is really good.

I think it’s probably important to read the bible in lot’s of different ways. It is defiantly important to read small sections and really study in detail, you could even break it down to verse by verse or as Louie Giglio suggests a one word bible study. I think these methods give you a real in-depth look at a particular section and you would learn a lot.

Like wise I think there is defiantly a place for reading larger sections of the bible at a time, one whole chapter or a few, even maybe a book at a time. The benefit of this is you really see how sections fit together. For example if you read the bible from start to finish it’s quite exciting to see the journey, to see how Jesus fits into the God story. It can help you understand what the Jews believe in the New Testament because you have just read the Old Testament.

So I think quality is definatly more important than quantity for the sake of quanity but I think there is still a place for reading quantity and you will hopefully get something out of it that you might not get if you were reading verse by verse for example.

Having said all that, we will have a think. You will find out the final plan on Monday when we start, so tune in then. Thanks for the idea.
