Another week, another Lunchcast. It was a early start for a Sunday; 9am *cough*

Grab this weeks show below:

So Matthew 11 -15 is what we cover this week. Jesus ministry is in full swing. Lots of miracles, upsetting the local religious leaders and his family think he has lost it. All good fun then.

This weeks show

Matthew 11
John the Baptist is in prison and is unsure if Jesus is really who he first thought.
Jesus condemns some towns for their unbelieving ways and offers an alternative to the law of the Pharisees for those who choose to take it.

Matthew 12
Jesus confirms that He is the Lord of the Sabbath and mocks the very idea that He is in league with Satan.

Matthew 13
Parables, parables and more parables.

Matthew 14
John the Baptist is executed.
Jesus feeds the five thousand and walks on water.

Matthew 15
Jesus makes it clear that it is what is in the heart that determines whether or not we are clean. Not the rules we follow or how we appear to live.

We are on time this week, which makes a nice change. You can tell it was a struggle though from the lethargic start to the show. Never mind, we got there in the end *smile*

On this sleepy Sunday afternoon we move on to Matthew 6-10. There is a distinct pattern and direction to these chapters which is a model for something which appears to be missing from most of our Churches. It all points to a model for discipleship.

This weeks show

We pick things up in the middle of the sermon of the mount, but where is this teaching taking us?

Matthew 6
The importance of the secret place and location of our treasure are the focus of this chapter.

Matthew 7
Ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking if we are to discover what Jesus really has for us and where it will take us.

Matthew 8
With the talking over it’s time for some action. Jesus goes on a miracle marathon.

Matthew 9
Jesus seems to be a bit of a loan ranger; single handedly saving the world, but he emphases the need for us to join the fight as he points out the need for workers.

Matthew 10
He taught the disciples, he has shown the disciples, and now it’s time for them to put it all in to practice. The model of discipleship is here in these few chapters. How can we put it into practice?

Lunchcast: Episode 17: Matthew 1-5

Category : Bible, Lunch, Matthew

I know, I know; I promised that this would be here yestoday. But, where lunch is concerned, I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s better late than never.

This week we start our “concreting of the New Testament” with the first five chapters of Matthew. There is a also a fantastic running commentary of the the events at Anfield as Rich was watching the Champions League Semi Final while we were recording. I think the quality of our comments deteriorated as the tension builds towards the penalties but I don’t blame Rich too much, I would have been watching it too if my wife hadn’t banished me to the office *smile*

So what’s it all about?

So we start Matthew. A gospel to the Jews full of stuff relevant to them. But is it relevant to us?

Matthew 1
The genealogy of Jesus. What’s the point?

Matthew 2
Joseph had a dream; well several actually, and he made some pretty life changing decisions based on them. We have a little look at some of these crazy goings on.

Matthew 3
John the Baptist was a strange chap that had the quite staggering job of baptising Jesus. But why?

Matthew 4
Following His baptism, Jesus wanders into the wilderness. We challenge the standard view that this was a time of weakness and suffering and look at the idea that this was actually a real time strength and preparation for Jesus before he faced the life changing challenge from Satan.

Matthew 5
The start of the “sermon on the mount” as Jesus lays it down to his disciples about how He expects their lives to be radically different. We discuss some of the challenge involved.
